Quicken is one of the more popular financial programs used today. The software offers users ways to organize their finances and keep track of expenses. Microsoft Excel is a versatile spreadsheet program that can be used to keep track of finances.
1) Hung during OSU, Crash at Startup or otherunexplainable malfunctions in Quicken for Windows
Please verify this:
In Windows ControlPanel / System / Advanced System Settings / Environment Variables ensure thatboth the TEMP and TMP variables point to a valid and existing folder, typicallyC:WindowsTemp or C:Usersyour_username_hereAppDataLocalTemp
If they point to an incorrect or non-existent folder or drive change bothvariables to an existing folder on C: (or create one) and reboot Windows.

If the folder exists… does your Windows User Account have proper access rights to thisfolder?
If Quicken cannot create and use temporary files, all sorts of malfunctionswill occur.
If the Temp folder is full of junk, clean it out. Delete all files andsubfolders within the Temp folder structure that Windows allows you to delete.You may have to skip a few that are actively in use.

Make sure that filesin the Temp folder are NOT accessed by cloud backup software at all.
Make sure that JAVAis installed and running.
2) Validate
Validate yourQuicken data file. It may have become damaged over time or if you ever hadcrashes, hang-ups or loops while running Quicken. Repeated crashes mayeventually render a data file 'broken beyond repair'.
Please run thisexact procedure, skipping no steps:
- Make a copy ofyour data file: Click File / File Operations / Copy. Do not change any Copy Option settings. Savefile under a new name in same folder as current Quicken data file. (The Copy process appears to be performing arecord-by-record copy of the data file and not just a simple binary image copy.This has been reported as recovering some otherwise not repairablefiles)
- If Quicken reports an error creating the Copy file and you are using Q 2019repeat the Copy process, but press and hold SHIFT and CTRL as you click File /File Operations / Copy. When prompted 'Ignore errors that prevent filecopy?' click 'Yes'. Note:This may cause some data loss.
- Open the copied file in Quicken.
- If Quicken reports an error creating the Copy file and you are using Q 2019repeat the Copy process, but press and hold SHIFT and CTRL as you click File /File Operations / Copy. When prompted 'Ignore errors that prevent filecopy?' click 'Yes'. Note:This may cause some data loss.
- Open the copied file in Quicken.
- Click File / FileOperations / Validate and Repair. Click 'Validate File' and'Rebuild investing lots', check to make sure the copied file is beingvalidated. If you suspect that a damaged Quotes Price History causes yourproblems, also select 'Delete investing price history'. Click OK. Let it run.
- Fix any errorslogged as not repaired by Quicken.
- Click File / FileOperations. Press and hold SHIFT+CTRL as you click Validate and Repair. Thenext popup should show 'Supervalidate' somewhere in header or text.Click 'Supervalidate File', check to make sure the copied file isbeing validated, click OK. Let it run. It might run for a while.
- Again fix any errors logged as not repaired by Quicken.
- Again fix any errors logged as not repaired by Quicken.
- Now close andrestart Quicken using this new file and try your failing action again. If itworks, keep using the new file and abandon the old one.
- If that doesn'tresolve the issue, you may have no recourse but to restore your Quicken datafile from a Manual or Automatic Backup taken prior to the problem firstoccurring, if necessary going back to older backups until you find a file thatdoes not exhibit these symptoms.

Quicken is a personal finance tool developed by Intuit, Inc. Although developed by the same company, Quicken for Mac is different from Quicken for Windows, so you are unable to transfer data between the two programs. You can, however, import from Quicken for Mac to Excel for Windows. Quicken for Mac comes with a very useful export feature that can export your financial data in Excel format. All you have to do is transfer the exported file to the Windows computer.
1.Open Quicken on your Mac and open the file you want to export to Excel.
2.Click on the 'Export Data' button on the toolbar.
3.Select the 'To Excel Compatible Format' option to ensure the resulting file can be imported in Excel.
4.Type a name for your new file in the 'File name' text box.
5.Use the integrated file browser to select a folder in which to save the new file.
6.Insert the USB flash drive in one of your Mac's free USB ports.
7.Use the Finder to copy the file you exported from Quicken to the USB flash drive. Disconnect the drive from your Mac.
8.Insert the USB drive in one of your computer's free USB ports. Windows recognizes it as an external storage device and assigns a new drive to it.
10.Go to the 'File' menu and select 'Open.' Use the resulting file browser to navigate to the USB flash drive, select the file exported from Quicken and click 'Open' to import it into Excel.
Tip
- You can also send the file by email or burn it to a CD.
